Now, more than ever, we need a wide diversity of tools for strategy, dialogue, and collective action. In a time of deep injustice and political urgency, Theatre of the Oppressed (TO) offers a vital practice for building power, sharpening our analysis, strengthening relationships, and rehearsing the liberated futures we are fighting for.

This hands-on workshop introduces TO as a liberatory methodology for developing impactful justice movements and action. Originally developed by Brazilian theater-maker and political visionary Augusto Boal, TO is used by communities around the world to challenge oppression, strengthen collective understanding, and imagine new ways forward. Learn more about Theatre of the Oppressed here.

This is not theater for the stage—it’s REHEARSAL for the REVOLUTION.

Theatre of the Oppressed can help you:

  • Develop new ways of thinking and sharing

  • Communicate with each other creatively

  • Build community and dialogue

  • Design action plans and campaign strategies

  • Create dynamic and interactive demonstrations

  • Develop impactful community education events

  • Practice joy in our liberation

  • And so much more!

In this workshop we will explore some of the foundational practices of TO, including Games, Image Theatre and Forum Theatre and how you can use elements of these in your organizing work. We will play, explore and discuss together in a fully-embodied and engaging experience.

This workshop is for activists, organizers, educators, artists, and anyone committed to justice. Whether you're new to TO or returning to it, you’ll leave with practical tools and renewed perspective for your work.

No theater experience is required—this is a tool of and for the people. Just bring a willingness to learn and participate!

Cost is by donation. No one turned away for lack of funds.
